Achievements: 

• Riley Smith joined the Rhode Island women’s lacrosse staff as an assistant coach in September of 2022, making her the first person hired by head coach Jenna Slowey.
• Smith came to Rhode Island from the University of Delaware, where she spent two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the Blue Hens.
• Before Delaware, Smith spent four seasons at Wesleyan University as the Associate Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach. At Wesleyan, Smith helped the team go 36-14 overall record, with the program ending each of her four seasons nationally ranked in the IWLCA Division III Coaches Poll.
• In 2019, Smith helped lead Wesleyan to the Division III national Final Four. A year earlier, the Cardinals advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA DIII Tournament, earning its first program win in the NCAA tournament that season.
• While at Wesleyan, Smith developed 11 All-Americans, 11 All-NESCAC players, and successfully recruited 40 players from six states. She also served as an assistant field hockey coach for the Cardinals and has served as a head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Nor’easter Premier Lacrosse Club in New Haven, Conn., since 2013.

• Instrumental in Maryland’s championship run in 2010, tallying 22 goals and 13 assists as one of the top scoring threats for the Terps. In the national championship game, she scored two goals and handed out an assist in a 13-11 victory over Northwestern.
• A four-year letterwinner during her collegiate playing career at Maryland, Padilla started at midfielder and helped lead the Terrapins to the 2010 national championship as well as three straight Atlantic Coast Conference titles (2009-11). The Poway, Calif., native landed a spot on the IWLCA All-America team in 2009 to go with all-ACC distinction.

Experience:

• UNC graduate Emily Parros returned to the Tar Heel women’s lacrosse program as an assistant coach in October of 2020
• NCAA champion at North Carolina in 2013, spent the previous four years as an assistant coach at East Carolina while continuing to play professionally and for the U.S. National Team.
• In addition to her coaching career, Parros continues to play for the U.S. National Team and in the United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) as a member of the Philadelphia Force.

• After graduating from UNC, Wood started her professional lacrosse career with Athletes Unlimited

• Played four seasons with the Tar Heels where she appeared in 66 games as a defender. UNC reached Championship Weekend three times during Wood’s tenure in Chapel Hill, advancing to the national semifinals in 2018, 2019, and 2021. 

• Part of three ACC regular season titles and three ACC Tournament championships during her North Carolina career.

• Finished the 2021 AU season ranked No. 6 out of the 58 players in the league, earned three captaincy nods and was a nominee for Defensive Player of the Year. She has now played three professional seasons with Athletes Unlimited.

• Wood also brings international experience to the Tigers, having represented Team USA at the 2021 USA Lacrosse Fall Classic and time with the Team USA training team ahead of the 2022 World Championships.

• Wood has also worked as a mentor with Nations United in Baltimore, serving as a coach and panelist surrounding the importance of celebrating and elevating diversity within the lacrosse community.
